Piston compressors are the oldest and most common types of compressors. This compressor is available in two-way or one-way forms, whose parts are lubricated or non-lubricated, which have different types of cylinders. With the exception of really small compressors that have vertical cylinders, the V configuration is most common for small compressors. In large two-way compressors, the L-type configuration with a vertical low-pressure cylinder and a horizontal high-pressure cylinder has many advantages, which is why this type of design is more common than other designs. Compressors that are lubricated typically operate with either a spray lubrication system or pressure lubrication. Most compressors have automatic valves. An automatic valve opens and closes when pressure differences occur on both sides of the valve plate.
